Lottie was born to Alfred and Charlotte (Lottie) Monaghan on December 27, 1922 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York. She was the youngest of three children. Her sister, Helen, and brother, Phil, preceded her in death. Lottie’s family moved to Seattle during the first year of her life and she spent most of her years living in West Seattle where they settled. After graduating from West Seattle H.S. in 1941 she married Robert Spencer in 1942. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Lottie retired from the post office where she worked as a mail sorter for 20 years and made many friends. She was full of love for others and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever possible. Many enjoyable and inspirational summers were spent at Cannon Beach Conference Center. All the grandchildren fondly recall the special time spent there with their grandparents.
Lottie’s faith was very important to her. She joined Hillcrest Presbyterian Church in 1946 and in recent years she was a member of Grace Church in West Seattle. She taught Sunday and vacation Bible school, participated in a women’s Bible study group, a women's mentor group, a prayer group and prayer line, church work days and was a church door greeter.For the past 11 years, while living at Mount St. Vincent Home, she was known for her friendly, always positive attitude and her concern for others.
She leaves behind three children: Marcia Smith, Bradley Spencer and Linda Norton; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Smith Herzer, Kevin, April and Kimberly Smith, Alex Spencer and Anamika Spencer Bennett, Jeff and Andy Higashi and Julie Davis. There are now ten great grandchildren: Ruby and Simone (children of Jeff), Breanna (daughter of Andy), Ashley and Cole (children of Julie), Elijah and Max (children of April), Jadyn and Brayden (children of Anamika), and Tyler (son of Alex). Lottie was blessed with a loving family who will miss her greatly!
