In Loving Memory
Christine Herborg Richard 1921-2011 was born in Minneota, Minnesota, one of six children. She graduated from High School at 16 and moved to Minneapolis, living with a family friend while she attended a business school.
She married Sylvan in 1946 in Minnesota. They begin traveling throughout the states which included California, Arizona, North Dakota, Oregon, and finally Washington State. They had three children, Lee, Warren, and Stan. They divorced, and Christine became a proud single parent of her boys. who were her pride and joy.
Christine became very active in Seattle, helping her friend Elizabeth, with World Cavalcade. She joined the Washington Athletic Club as one of the first women accepted as a member. She made a career for herself by working with Lake Limerick Properties, where she was a executive assistant. She then worked for the Casey Family Program, which is a charitable organization helping families to find a place to live.
After her sons grew, she traveled around the world visiting Japan, Hawaii, India, the Mediterranean, and Greek Isles with friends, meeting many more along the way.
Christine was very proud of her Islandic heritage, making sure her sons and grandchildren, Alexa and Chris, knew about where the Richard family came from.
She had many loves in her life including first and foremost her family; followed by her passion for gardening, her love of music and dance, and her spiritual affiliations with the
Sukyo Mahikari in Mountlake Terrace where she has been a member for over 26 years. Her dedication to her daily walks, balanced meals, and weekly yoga classes contributed to her healthy lifestyle which kept her away from doctors for over 50 years. We all learned from her.
She is survived by her sister, Carol and her husband Bud in Minnesota, her two daughter-in-laws, Sandi and Monica, and her many nieces and nephews in Minnesota, North Dakota, and California. She will be missed.
