Craig was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Charles and Marilyn Brewster on March 10th, 1957. He attended school in Seattle; graduated from Ingraham High School in 1976 and graduated from South Seattle Community College in 1978 with an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts. He married Carla Sampelayo on July 22nd, 1978 in Seattle, WA. They welcomed their first born son Craig Jr on January 19th, 1980 and their second son Steven on March 12th, 1981. Their marriage ended in 1985.
In 2001 Craig met Pia Valentin and were married on November 14th, 2004 in Renton, WA. Craig and Pia made their home in Des Moines, WA with their Daughter Jhia Valentin.
Craig was a passionate chef and loved to cook for family and friends. Craig was very creative and was able to make a gourmet meal out of anything. He worked as a chef for over 25 years starting at Glendale Country Club but soon worked for Seattle City Light in their cafeteria downtown. Later he started at the Police Academy cafeteria and stayed for 10 years. In addition, Craig worked at the Federal Building, Bay view Manor, and Lakeshore Retirement. Craig was an amazing caterer of weddings and parties. Craig loved to show his family and friends the craft of catering and even included his two boys in the business. Sometimes Craig would even cater events for just the cost of the food.
Since his early twenties, Craig was always volunteering. He started off volunteering as Santa with a Heart for the American Heart Association, raising money playing Santa at work parties and family gatherings. Craig loved playing the part and he was an amazing Santa. For the last five years, Craig was the Nordstrom’s Santa bringing joy to thousands of children. The Make-A-Wish Foundation also benefitted from Craig volunteering to cater their annual fundraising event in Seattle.
Craig and Pia were always together and he greatly loved having her by his side traveling around Washington and to the Philippines. They loved attending church at Angle Lake Neighborhood Church and was so appreciative of his church family. Craig adored his grandchildren and always had a way to make them smile. Craig enjoyed fishing and teaching others how to fish. Craig also enjoyed gardening, especially dahlias, and would invite the children from his church to plant flowers every year.
Craig is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marilyn Brewster, and his brother Steven Brewster.
Craig is survived by his loving wife Pia Brewster, his sons Craig Brewster Jr (Annalisa) and Steven Brewster (Tiffany), his daughter Jhia Valentin, his grandchildren Haley Brewster, Carter Brewster, Isabel Brewster, Ashley Brewster, his siblings Chuck Brewster (Lora), Ron Brewster (Sandy), Barbara Ansell (Tom), Brian Brewster, Mark Brewster (Robin), Lorenna Elder (Alex), and Janet Copenhaver (Larry), and many nieces and nephews.
Craig was a very caring person who would do anything to help others. Craig would give the shirt off of his back and never ask for anything in return. Craig was a very humorous person who could always put a smile on your face. He will be dearly missed but he lives on in us.
