Dagney Dahl Stearns passed away peacefully on February 23, 2016.
Born in Tegus, North Dakota to Mary and Hans Dahl on January 25, 1918. She was one of twelve children with all her brothers and sisters predeceasing her. Dagney married Gordon Stearns in August of 1939. They lived in Minot North Dakota for three years and then moved to the greater Seattle area.
Dagney lived a very full life. She spent many years with husband Gordie who predeceased her in their 59th year of marriage. They raised three children, Katherine, Patricia and Charles. She also had nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She and Gordie loved to dance and for many years their weekends were spent on the dance floor on both Friday and Saturday evenings.
She was an excellent bowler having scored a number of 300 games which is perfect in bowlers' world.
Many hours were spent gardening and many a flower bed will miss her greatly.
You didn't want to play cards with Dagney unless you were good at the game being played and you had better know the rules. She was a fierce competitor that brought fear to the eyes of competitors and never met a slot machine she didn't like, unless the payoff was less than expected, which she rarely admitted.
Travel was another thing that Dagney enjoyed. She and Gordie when young took their children on summer road trips to North Dakota and California. That was before cars had air conditioning and time spent in the car wasn't always pleasant for Kathy, Patti and Chuck. Later she and Gordie took a number of cruises and visited Kathy and Bob and their children, Rob and Kevin, regularly in Connecticut. Two trips to Europe visiting relatives in Norway were also special.
She enjoyed having Patti and Paul nearby. Never a night went by without a call from Patti to check up on Mom. A special bond was built between their twin daughters, Lori and Kristi, and Grandma.
She and Gordie enjoyed visiting Mercer Island and having dinner with Chuck and Sharon and their five children: Ryan, Tricia, Karie, Michael and Thomas. Many will remember their 50th wedding anniversary which was held at the swim club on Mercer Island and hosted by Kathy, Patti and Chuck.
Late in life she lived at Belmore In Federal Way where she met and enjoyed many new friends. That was one of the things she did easily and well. She will be missed by them and especially her family.
