
Passed away August 6, 2005 at the age of 77 after an admirable and fulfilling life. Dallas was born January 18, 1928 in Bland, Missouri. He moved to Battleground, Washington as a child with his parents and brother. Dallas graduated from Battleground High School in 1946 and was offered a baseball scholarship at the University of Washington. He decided to join the Army and was sent to serve in Korea where he was recruited to play football for the Seventh Infantry Division. On his return to the Pacific Northwest, Dallas attended WSU and then transferred to the University of Portland where he played baseball, and received a Masters Degree in Education. From 1952-1956 Dallas was a teacher, coach and principal in Athena, OR. After that, Dallas moved to Ione, OR where he became the Superintendent of Schools. In 1960, Dallas moved to Vancouver, WA and became Field Director of the Oregon Education Assn. until 1965. Subsequently, he moved to Seattle where he served as Executive Secretary for the Seattle Teachers Assn. and later as the chief examiner of Public Safety Commission for the City of Seattle, where he retired in 1991. In his later years, Dallas enjoyed living in Las Vegas, playing golf during the winter and spending time with family. Dallas was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous heart and unforgettable stories. Dallas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deloise; children Jay & Kathy Sternoff, Patrick & Sandy Shockley, Jay & Rebecca May, and Mick Shockley; and grandchildren Jayson, Tamara, Ryan, Michael, and Rachel Sternoff, Amanda and Danielle Shockley, Ashley Sullivan, Benjamin and Katy Brock.
