
Passed away Oct. 2 in Seattle, on his 71st birthday from complications during heart surgery. He was happy and vigorous until the day he died. His life is a shining testament of all that can be accomplished with a positive attitude. He will be greatly mourned and missed by all who had the good fortune and great pleasure of knowing him. He never stopped learning new things or making friends. Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Audrey, and his 5 children and their spouses: Linda and Phil Safar, of Wenatchee, Mary Jane and Marc Davis, of Bellingham, Julie and Dan Little, Scott Guettinger and Lisa Emerson, and Teresa and Chris Piddington, all of Seattle. He is also survived by his sister, Jessie Druffel, of Pullman. ?Grandpa? will be mourned by his 12 grandchildren and many special relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
Dave was born in 1932 in Colton, WA. He received his BS, MS, and PhD in Soils Science from WSU and continued with the University as an Extension Soils Specialist. Later, he joined Cominco American in Spokane and worked there 23 years, retiring in 1992. Throughout his life, he served his church and communities in many leadership roles, and volunteered with the Service Corp of Retired Executives in Seattle for 10 years. He was an avid fly fisherman, skier, fix-it-man, pancake cook, and gardener. He and Audrey traveled the world after retirement. Dave made every day count.
Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 10049 NE 195th, Bothell, WA, at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 10. His ashes will be entombed in Colton, WA, and also scattered by his children and grandchildren at his favorite fishing hole on the Selway River in Idaho when the fish are biting next summer.
