Denise Warren passed away on August 10, 2018 leaving behind a life filled with the joy of family and friends. She was 62 and endured the ravages of diabetes for 50 years but never let it keep her from living a full and productive and bountiful life.
Denise grew up in Syracuse, New York and was a graduate of Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse. Denise and her husband Ahmed moved to Seattle in 1982. At the age of 40, she returned to school to earn a BSN degree at UW. Denise worked as an RN in several disciplines for 35 years retiring from Virginia Mason in 2012.
Denise loved to travel and see the world through her own lens. She was charitable, kind, forgiving, fiercely egalitarian and a champion of the weakest among us. As a peace and social justice activist, Denise lived her creed. She had zero tolerance for intolerance and dreamed of a world where we all got along.
Her husband, Ahmed Amr, and her sister, Peggy Mekuria, invite you to join her extended family and friends for a celebration of her life at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home on Aurora Ave N. at 1:00 - 4.00 PM on Sunday, August 19th.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rachell Corrie Foundation or the Camp Sealth Fund of the American Diabetes Association. Words of comfort may be expressed for Denise's family by clicking on the Tributes tab just below her name.
