Edel was born in Aaseund, Norway. She had two sisters, Ingliev and Caroline. She also had five brothers: Peter, Caspar, Lars, Ivar, and one who died at an early age. She was the last survivor of the siblings.
She traveled to America when she was 21, and met her husband to be, at a Swedish dance in Seattle. When asked ''how come you were at a Swedish dance''', her Norwegian husband Bjarne always replied, ''the music was better'' While they both were from within twenty miles of each other when growing up in Aalesund, they had never met until both were in Seattle. They married in 1930 and started their family.
Their first child was Corinne Swift, who lives in Beaverton, Oregon with her husband William. The second child was Arne Vemo, who lives with his wife Barbara in Shoreline, WA. She was the proud grandmother of Stephen Swift, Caroline Swift McIntire, Laura M. Swift, Jon Vemo, Kristin Vemo, Liza Vemo-Straume, and ten great grandchildren.
Having lived through the ''Depression'', the memory was a part of who she was. She would often mention to her children the difficulties many families experienced in those times. With her husband Bjarne, they, like the many others that had immigrated in the early twentieth century, worked hard and were successful in America.
In her golden years, she traveled to Norway to visit her family, and other places in the world. She loved to play all card games, and enjoyed trips to Reno and Tahoe to play the ''nickel slots''.
She had and appreciated a long life with many happy and loving experiences. She will be missed by her remaining family.
To live in the hearts of those you love is never to die.
