Efigenia “Gina” Davis was born in Naval Biliran, Philippines to parents Luis Sabulaan and Manuela Bron Sabulaan. She has 3 brothers, 3 sisters and 6 children, all of whom are living in the Philippines. She came to the United States in the early 90’s. Her first job was at the Seattle Pike Place Market as a sales lady at the merchandise store. Though Gina loved her job at the market, the pay was not enough to support her children as she sent money back to the Philippines to help. After a few years she decided to leave for a better paying job at an Adult Family Home in Bellevue to take care of elderly patients. Gina found caregiving was her passion and after several years of working as a caregiver she went to school and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She continued working at the Adult Family Home for a few years and then she left for another opportunity.
In 1997, Gina met Curtiss through her niece. Curtiss was a neighbor and a friend of her niece. Gina and Curtiss were married on December 13, 1997 and resided in Seattle for most of the time. Gina also worked at Swedish Home Health and Hospice and as a CNA at a nursing home in Issaquah. She held 2 jobs for more than 10 years because one income was not enough considering she had 6 children to support. She took a live-in caregiving job for a nice couple that was 5 days a week so she no longer had to work the 2 jobs. The couple were very good to her and the pay was more than what she made working the 2 jobs. Gina took care of the couple until they passed away. After that, Gina retired. The couple had left her something to make sure Gina had enough to live on. Gina took care of her husband Curtiss because he had health issues and on dialysis 3 times a week. Through all this, Gina never lost her ambition to get her diploma so she went back to school at Seattle Community College for an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Her mind and heart believed that education was the key of all success and she was not a quitter. Her motto in life was “a quitter never wins and a winner nevers quits”.
Gina was a very kind and generous person. She had plenty of friends and they were more like brothers or sisters to her. She did not have a big family here in the United States but she had a big circle of friends. Gina sold her house in Seattle back in March 2021 and she bought a house in Puyallup where she and Curtiss lived together up until her passing.
She will be greatly missed.
