
Eleanor was born March 29, 1915 in Webster, South Dakota to Mayme and Burton Mankey. The family subsequently moved to Washington settling in West Seattle. Eleanor graduated from Jefferson Grade School and West Seattle High, where she was active in school activities. She graduated from the Univ. of Washington School of Economics and Business in 1938, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega social sorority Mortar Board actives honorary and Beta Gamma Sigma scholastic honorary. In 1939 she married Allen V. Green who was a member of the Naval Reserve from the Univ. of Washington. He was called to active duty prior to WWII, serving for 20 years at many interesting duty stations. Their favorite location was their 3 years in Golcuk, Turkey, where Commander Green was an advisor to the Turkish Navy, Eleanor had the wonderful opportunity of teaching English to the wives of the Turkish Naval Officers giving the family the opportunity to make many Turkish friends. Shortly after their return to the US Commander Green became ill and retired to Seattle, where the family built their home in Laurelhurst. Upon Commander Green?s passing, Eleanor went to work for Doug Fox Travel where she remained for 23 years, becoming Executive Vice President. Upon retirement Eleanor lived at Grosvenor House for nine years, later moving to the Firs Retirement Apartments in Olympia, WA. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Mankey Johnsen. Surviving are her 3 three children, Terry Green of Denver, CO, Kathy Martin of Olympia and Colleen Green of Seattle, granddaughters Michelle and her husband Dan Fink of Lake Tapps, Melinda and her husband Terry Lund of Olympia. Also included are six great grandchildren. Memorial service Sunday, 12:00pm Feb. 4th, 2007 at Washelli Chapel in Seattle, WA.
