Born in Seattle, WA, he moved to Nagoya, Japan, at the age of 9 and later returned to Seattle in 1989. During his time in Japan, he attended Nagoya International School, where he was actively involved in sports - playing volleyball and basketball - as well as participating in the musical theater program. After graduating high school, he returned to the U.S. to pursue his passion for the arts, attending Washington State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and Drama in 1996. He carried that dedication into his 12-year tenure as a Courtesy Clerk at Safeway, Inc., where he was known for his kindness and welcoming spirit.
Anyone who knew Elmer will remember him as a warm, generous soul who shared his humor and friendliness with everyone he met. He found joy in many hobbies, including frisbee golf, spending time with family and friends at The Mother Aerie Eagles Club, attending live concerts, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and cherishing moments with his loved ones.
His presence will be deeply missed, but his warmth and light will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his child, Chelsea (Ian); his mother, Carmen; siblings, Karen (Gary), Ted (Lynn), Michael (Joanna), and Junko (Jeff); as well as numerous nieces, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Elmer’s family thanks everyone who reached out to offer condolences and love.
