My memories of great uncle Eric are as a child in the mid 70`s on one of his trips to England. I remember him as an enigmatic, playful,  mysterious, gentle giant with a funny accent from a land unknown to me then, who used to slip us kids a `fiver` when walking us to the bus stop on our journey home. A small fortune in those days!Hahaha! It was much like the feeling you have as a child waking up on christmas morning and seeing all the pressies under the tree...breath-taking and magical! The best of grandfathers- the sort who will listen to you sing made up songs in the backyard, who gives you binoculars to spot birds, who teaches you the simple joy of gardening, who shares his knowledge and his love freely, who loves you unconditionally.  A finer man I've yet to meet (Daddy excepted, of course).  Grandpa Eric is part of who I am and his loving influence will be reflected in future generations throughout our family. 

We still think of you all often and recall how kind you all were to us when we visited with you back in 1989 (ish) and I drove that beautiful "Gran Tourino" estate that Eric got for me to drive behind his car as we went about Washington State.We had a fantastic time getting to know you all back then. Eric and Margaret gave us all a great holiday and visit to their family.

Grief can be so hard but our special memories help us to cope. I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in your memories and in knowing God has promised to soon "swallow up death forever...and wipe the tears from all faces" (Isaiah 25:8) With deepest sympathy 



Auntie Margaret, Jenny, Chuck & family. My fondest memory of Uncle Eric was when you all came over to visit the U.K in 1976. I was 7 years old at the time & lived & breathed football. Uncle Eric was a Bristol City fan & I went to watch my first game against West Ham with my dad & Uncle Eric. I can remember before the game the feeling of excitement & euphoria. The game finished 1:1 & none of us saw either of the goals due to the crowd trouble! But from that day forth I was well & truly hooked. Thanks to two people. Uncle Eric for giving me the opportunity to go & my dad for taking me. Which was a big thing for him to do, as he's a staunch Bristol Rover's fan & in taking me to see their biggest rivals & the local enemy, must have known I would've turned out a City rather than a Rover's fan. So thanks Uncle Eric for guiding me away from what would have been a lifetime of disappointment & despair if I had chosen the wrong footballing path!! Steve.

I knew Eric when I was in high school, over 40 years ago. His daughter Jenny was one of my best friends (and remains so today), and I loved spending time at the Attwood home. Eric always made me feel welcome and comfortable. He played along with our youthful goofiness, and seemed to find as much humor in it as we did. He was a very special man, and even though I had not seen him in many years, I will always remember him with great fondness and happy memories. 

Warmth, keen wit, good humor, and genuine kindness are the qualities that spring to mind whenever I think of Eric, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to know him. 

Grandpa Eric will be missed by us all. He has left us with a deep love for him and many wonderful memories.

We all enjoyed grampa dearly, we loved to sit and listen to his stories about England, the war and growing up. I especilly loved to hear him talk in his English accent. Michael loved to go fishing with him and watch soccer. The boys always loved to stop and give him and grandma the fish they had caught and the wild mushrooms they picked. He was always so warm and welcoming, he was such a gift to us all and will be greatly missed. We love you.  

we will all miss Eric very much. He was a kind, thoughtful man who met all the challenges of life and succeeded. I will miss his wit, compassion and the things he loved to do and talk about. He was my friend and father in law. god bless you Eric. 

My heart goes out to you, Margaret, Jenny, and the rest of the family.  Eric and Margaret were neighbors and good friends when we all lived in Tukwila.  We experienced the trials and tribulations of condo living, and both Eric and Margaret became beloved friends.   I loved the humor we shared, the cups of tea, and the way we seemed to come through some of the difficult times with our friendships intact.  I shall always remember your graciousness, your warmth, and your willingness to help when we were all under stress.  I was so saddened to read of Hilary's death, but had no way to contact you all to let you know that shared some of your grief.  Please know that I shall always remember Eric warmly and that my heart is with you, Margaret especially and Jenny and all of the family.

I work with Eric in the late 60's at the Renton site. He was a a well liked person and was always there to help.

He will be missed and my prayers go out to him and his family.

Eric was always a kind, gentle, gracious man with twinkling eyes and a smile to match. He so loved and treasured his family. I am grateful to have known him through my very good friend, Jenny, and I too will miss him.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing. You must wake up with sorrow. You must speak to it till your voice catches the thread of all sorrows and you see the size of the cloth. Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore.
Only kindness that ties your shoes and sends you out into the day to mail letters and purchase bread, only kindness that raises its head from the crowd of the world to say It is I you have been looking for, and then goes with you everywhere like a shadow or a friend.

I cannot remember my brother Eric without a smile on his face, he found humour in everything - I remember his comments on school dinners in the dark days of the war! Our father was always slightly scandalised by his lack of seriousness but a slow smile would show up nevertheless as he took on board the meaning and perhaps he was loved more than the rest of us. Mother never forgot her visit for the wedding and recounted all the details and in particular Ericâ€™s jokes and jibes.

Above all I remember his love of family. He was the great patriarch. I never saw him happier than when he was surrounded by his daughters, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren. I was lucky that my job allowed me to visit Canada and the U.S.A. and so I was able to see him and his family more than the rest of the Attwoods. Later , with my wife Betty, we had further opportunities to visit and we felt very close to the whole family.

I shall miss him, the last of all the knights. We will all miss him.


I miss you Dad. You were the kindest Dad in the world to Hilary and me. Summers on Canadian lakes, blue skies, swimming, rowing, fishing, camping, country fairs, corn fields, the farm. Winters out the backdoor to iceskate on frozen ponds, the Quebec stove, icicles on the window frames, frozen mittens, and Mum smiling at the doorway. My hand in yours. Always safe. Always loved. My darling Dad.
