

Gene, age 86, passed away unexpectedly with many family members and friends by his side on May 20th. Gene was born in Tacoma, WA to Al and Helen Steinauer. Gene lived most of his life in Seattle, WA with his last few years in Ferndale. Gene was a graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma where he lettered in football and swimming. Gene attended the University of Puget Sound prior to joining the Navy as a Seabee. After leaving military service, he went to work driving truck for Seattle Transfer. On a recommendation of a friend, he applied for and was accepted as a deputy for the King County Sheriff's Department from which, after putting in some time in patrol, he became a detective in property crimes and homicide. He retired after 20 years from the department at the rank of Sergeant. After that, he did various jobs from working security at the King County Courthouse to crab fishing in Alaska. Gene loved to fish and was an avid swimmer.
Gene is survived by his children Matthew Roy (Sarah), Margaret, and Geraldine; grandchildren Orlondo, Alicia, Casey, Holly, Joseph, Tiran, Anthony, Christina, Treyvon; and great grandchildren Kiana, Rheyna, Taeya, Drayden, Malachi, Joseph Jr., Anthony, Hope, Amiya, and Makiah; along with a multitude of cousins. Gene is greatly missed.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 3:00pm at Evergreen Memorial Park, 11111 Aurora Avenue N, Seattle, WA.
