Born on December 25, 1909, Fred Lee Grant joined the family as the second child of Will and Delia Grant on the family farm in McGehee, Arkansas. By 1926 there were 14 children enjoying the bountiful harvests of this rich bottom land.
Fred Grant met Georgia Fane in 1931, and they were married on February 2, 1932. Their marriage produced 5 children: Fred Lee Grant, Jr., Charles Edward Grant, Leon Gary Grant, Irma Jean Grant and Bobbie Gene Grant. Fred Grant was preceded in death by two of his children: Fred Lee Grant, Jr., and Bobbie Gene Grant.
He left his home in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the summer of 1942 and moved to Bremerton, Washington, where he trained and worked as a pipefitter in the Naval shipyard. He was joined by his family in the Fall of that year. He moved his family to Seattle in 1948, where he began his career in the building trades, working first in marine construction, and then in cement finishing. Fred Grant opened his construction business in 1962, and operated it until he retired.
In life, Fred Grant?s home was open to many who needed refuge for a few days or several years.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Georgia Grant of Federal Way, Washington; two sons, Charles Grant of Seattle, Washington, and Leon Grant of Edgewood, Washington; and one daughter, Irma Jean Grant of Seattle, Washington; and one brother, James Grant of Kansas City, Kansas. His sister, Ocela Mitchell, Kansas City, Kansas, passed away on September 15, 2002. In addition there are 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews who survive him.
