Genevieve is survived by one brother, George Winkle of Monroe, WA; two sons and their spouses, Michael Owen and Alice Spitzer of Potlatch, ID, and Stephen and Linda Owen of Vaughn, WA; one daughter, Suzanne Peterson of Stanwood, WA; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
Gen was born in Everett, WA and grew up in the Snohomish area. She attended Snohomish High School where she met her future husband, Stuart. They married, and moved to Seattle where Stuart became involved in starting his own business, Contract Hardware, and they began raising their three children.
Gen enjoyed being actively involved in her community.
She was a founding member of the Robert A. Booth Guild
which raised money for Children's Hospital in Seattle. She was also a member, and past president of both the Lake City and Stanwood Emblem Clubs which also raise money for
numerous organizations.
Gen had a way of making friends wherever she went and was young at heart, even when her heart began to give out. She was extremely talented, had a knack for interior design, and was an expert seamstress. Imparter of wisdom, emotionally strong, and feisty to the end, Gen was an inspiration to many and the cornerstone of her family.
Mom, may you be kicking up your heels now with dad in heaven dancing to Johnny Cash!
A celebration of Gen's life will be held at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home in Seattle, on February 9th, 2008 at 2:00PM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breast Cancer Prevention Fund at PO Box 1508, Everett, WA 98206.
