
Robert Bailey was born August 15, 1915, the oldest son of George and May Bailey in Brooklyn, NY, and passed away August 5, 2004. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Bailey. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Culbertson Bailey, son G. Robert Bailey, Jr., and his wife Susan of Houston, TX, daughter Bette Brightman and her husband Michael of Pasco, WA, brother Thomas Bailey and his wife Nancylee of Abingdon, VA, sister Virginia Gogarty of Ft. Myers, FL, niece Barbara Allen and her husband Joe Leinonen of Seattle, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
After living on Long Island, NY, until 1965, he and Martha made "the best move ever" to Seattle. They lived in Llandover by the Sound for 36 years before moving to Merrill Gardens in Mill Creek in 2001.
In addition to traveling for business in five northwest states, Bob and Martha were devoted to visiting family in Eastern Washington and Texas. Also, they attended many reunions at Duke University where he and Martha graduated in 1937. He was a member of the swim team and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
Bob participated in many organizations throughout his life. He was a member of the Public Links Seniors of Washington for many years and made many lasting friendships. While in Seattle, he was a volunteer driver for Seattle/King County Senior Services for which he was named a Volunteer of the Year by the NFL in 2001. At Merrill Gardens, he kept active by making many friends and acting as treasurer of the community council and was manager of the "Country Store".
Services will be at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home at noon on Tuesday, August 10, 2004.
He will be missed by his loving family and many friends.
