George was born to George Sr and Gracia DeBon on Feb 3, 1922 in the outskirts of Kent, Washington on a truck garden farm.
They were a few of the first to sell their produce at the Pike Place Market.
George graduated from Franklin High in 1940 with honors and a business scholarship to Edison Vocational School and was drafted into the Army Dec 26, 1940 where he served for 3+ years as an army staff sergeant in the service command unit #40 Fort Lewis, Wa. When George returned from his military service he attended the University of Washington GI program graduating in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in business education Summa cum laude.
After college he earned his CPA degree and was hired as an apprentice CPA with an international accounting firm Haskin's and Sells where he ended up as a partner for 21 years. He then moved on to become president and chairman of the board for Loomis Armored Car. Loomis was then acquired by Mayne Nickless co. where George served as international executive director which led to many travels to Australia, Canada
and Mexico. He retired at age 70.
George met his wife Betty New Years eve on a blind date in 1948 and they married 2 years later. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2020 during the covid pandemic and were blessed to have had each other during this trying time. Betty unfortunately broke her femur in a fall Feb 2021 and although did great for 3 months with her recovery, fell ill with pneumonia and passed away in May 2021.
George and Betty had a full life traveling extensively throughout the Northwest backpacking in their younger years to many lakes and mountains, traveling to Europe, Australia, and their favorite annual visit to Kihei, Hawaii which they many times met up with family and friends. They were greatly loved by all.
After retirement George spent time on many small business boards and non profits including Salvation Army and Seattle Rotary Club. He was also on the board of directors for Northaven Senior Living where he and Betty lived happily for 4 years making many new friends.
George was an avid golfer, member of Broadview and Seattle Golf club and greatly enjoyed golfing at any new place he could find all over the state. George and Betty were active members of Olympic View community Church their whole life.
George is survived by his children Greg DeBon, Lynn Gracy (and husband Paul) , nieces and nephews Jeanne Gregory and husband Kent), Dianna Christiansen (and husband Ned), Mark Belcher and their children and spouses that have been a huge loving presence in his life. George had a wit and sense of humor that always had people laughing!! He will forever be missed.
