Gordon (Buddy) F. Brown, 93, passed away April 16, 2018, in Shoreline, Washington. He was born July 23, 1924 in Seattle, Washington. Gordon was a longtime resident of Lake Forest Park prior to moving to Anderson Plaza in 2014. He enjoyed living at the Plaza, the many activities provided, the good dining at the "mess hall" as he called it and the friends that he made with other residents (especially Chris and Richard) and the many staff people who took such good care of him these last few years.
Gordon grew up in the Capital Hill area of Seattle with his siblings Margery, Irene and Bruce. The family, like many at that time, had both good and tough times due to the impact of WWI on father Charles E Brown and the extreme difficulties resulting from the Great Depression. This was compounded for the family at the loss of his mother Mabel Coleman when he was 12. The family never fully recovered. They all preceded Gordon in death.
Gordon was drafted in March 1943 serving in the Army as a machine gunner with the 80th Infantry Division during WWII in the European Theater. This marked the beginning of a career in the United States Army spanning a 4 decade period which included WWII, Korea (32nd Infantry Regiment) and 2 tours in Vietnam primarily in counterintelligence and administration. He was a military man at heart. He was deeply impacted by the experiences of war yet enjoyed his time in the military, especially his many years in Germany. Some of his military awards and decorations included: Bronze Star, American Campaign and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, medals, National Defense Service Medal and many more medals, citations and badges. He was very proud to serve the United States Army. Additionally, Gordon worked as draftsman making maps, as a graphics lead Illustrator for Boeing Defense, and supervisor of mechanical drawing. He loved working on projects at his Lake Forest Park home, spending time with younger brother Bruce especially their real estate ventures. He was an accomplished artist. Gordon loved his family although he never had children of his and was known as a generous and helpful person to all he called friend or family.
Gordon is survived by nieces and nephew Cheryl Charles, Kelly Dukes, Lore DiFrancesco, Debra Bordsen, Joanne Longley & Gary Turner; great nieces Sharon Turner, Sandy Waller and Suzanne Pihlman; and sister-in-law Lois Brown (Bruces wife) & his half siblings Charles Brown & Dorothy Eney.
A memorial service and lunch is planned April 29, 2018, 11:00 AM at Anderson Plaza, 17201 15th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA.
