Tribute to Gracie Williams

Ms. Gracie Williams was a strong, dignified, smart, artistic, and compassionate woman.  She was a leader wherever she went.  I count myself lucky to have been her friend.  We met 35 years ago at Goodwill Community Learning Center where she and I were both volunteer tutors.  She had more experience, so she brought me along.  We invented and co-taught a small business class.  She was a steady support to the Peoples’ Learning Center, a grassroots adult literacy school which students and teachers started together.  She helped me promote Ms. Georgia Rogers’ self-published book.  Over the years Gracie and I would take walks, talk justice, stop to drink tea.  I will miss Gracie a great deal.  She was full of grace, as her name says.  Rest in peace, rest in power, Ms. Gracie Williams.
