Helen was erudite, witty, a lover of all animals and feeder of stray cats. She was born in South Bend, Indiana of Irish parentage and she remained committed to Irish unity and sovereignty her adult life. This led to and interest in Irish antiquarian books, of which she was a bookseller for many years in LA and in Seattle. She graduated from nursing school in Trenton, NJ and went on to an academic career in which she earned two Master’s Degrees: one in Public Health from UCLA and another from the UW in Public Policy and Governance.
In the Seattle area she was well known for her work In Quality Assurance in health care and later her interest and intellect led her to pursue Complex Systems Management.
She is sadly missed by her husband, John Harte, daughter Eileen her husband Jason; grandchildren Liam and Roisin Shiley and their father Tim Shiley. Helen leaves behind many friends and colleagues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and numerous cousins and family in South Bend and in Ireland. Those of us fortunate to have been touched by her intellect, humor and generosity will remember her in our thoughts and hearts for years to come.
As per Helen’s request, there will be no services.
