She moved to the Foster area of Seattle in 1922. Irma graduated from Foster High School as valedictorian of her class. She lived in Seattle, Federal Way, Puyallup, and Bothell. Her professional career was as an office administrator, most notably with North Pacific Coast Freight Bureau. She was a life-long Catholic and a member of Christ the King Parish, Seattle, and later St. Martin of Tours, Fife.
In retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed several years of traveling in their fifth wheel trailer, covering most of the United States. They also traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, and Australia.
Irma was a loving wife and mother. She and Joe always called each other "Mom" and "Dad". They were so proud of their two boys and their lives centered on being parents, first and foremost. The lights of her life were her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her longevity can be attributed, at least in part, to her indomitable spirit and positive outlook on life. She often commented "how fortunate" she was to have the life and family she had.
Irma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by sons James (Bonnie) of Puyallup and Donald of Bothell, three grandchildren, Brian, Shawn, and Jeff and one great-grandchild, Ashton, as well as honorary grandchildren Sean and Danielle Mahoney, and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to express our gratitude to Cynthia and Carlos Rubio of Serene Homes for the care provided to Mom in her final years, and a special thanks to Merly Manahan, her care provider, for the loving personal attention she gave Mom.
