Janene Faye Street, 69, passed away December 3, 2023 in Seattle, Washington after a long battle with interstitial lung disease. She was born July 22, 1954 under the shadow of Hanford in Richland to Ernest Street and Gladys (GG) Gray.
As a child, Janene moved with her parents to Lake Forest Park. She would spend the rest of her life in the greater Seattle area, graduating from Shorecrest High School and the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology. In her later years, she settled in Shoreline.
Janene had four sons across three decades, Derek, Kyle, Andrew and Jacob. They were the light of her life. For nearly 20 years, she worked at the Bon Marché (later Macy’s) at Bellevue Square, before working for the Internal Revenue Service. Or, as she called it whenever anyone asked, “the federal government,” without elaborating.
After retiring, she split her time between the Seattle area and Palm Springs, California, where after decades of working and raising children, she could finally live out her tragically few golden years as an empty nester. She often dreamed of owning a campervan and traveling the country in retirement. She passed in what would’ve been the prime of her life.
Janene loved to dance, starting with her first concert seeing Paul Revere & the Raiders as a teenager, to Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell, and to her last show, James Taylor, with her dear friend Janet in May. She could dance to anything.
Janene was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Darrell. She is survived by her four sons, daughter-in-law Amy, two grandchildren, Parker and Logan, and many friends. She is as constant as a northern star, and will forever be missed.
