
Passed quietly into the Lord?s care October 14, 2004. Born March 29, 1923 in Anacortes, Washington, he attended Wenatchee High School and the University of Washington, where he served as President of Zeta Psi Fraternity. Jack received his law degree from the University of Washington in 1952. He served in General Patton?s 3rd Army from 1943-1945 as part of the 1st Platoon,
30th Field Hospital. Jack served his country in England, France and Germany, and served during the Normandy Invasion, for which he received the Jubilee of Liberty medal. Jack met his wife, Fern Simmons, at the University of Washington, and they married in 1950.
Jack had a private law practice in Wallingford from 1952 -1992. As a trial lawyer he had a diversified practice, including one case heard before the United States Supreme Court. He was a Municipal Judge in Island County, Washington, and also served as District Court Commissioner. Jack was one of only 100 members of the Washington State Bar Association to commemorate over 50 years of distinguished service to the legal profession in the state of Washington. He was also a member of the American Bar Association and the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association for over 50 years.
Jack was active in the Seattle community, with nearly 50 years of service to Kiwanis International, which included serving as a club President and Camp Director for Camp Casey, a camp for children with physical disabilities. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Zeta Psi Fraternity for many years, and he was a lifetime member of the University of Washington Alumni Association. Jack coached his son?s elementary school basketball team, receiving the ?Man of the Year? Award for such service. Jack played a great game of golf and belonged to Rainier Golf and Country Club.
Jack will be remembered with love by his family, friends and colleagues,
for his intelligence, his sense of humor, his wonderful stories, and his beautiful rose garden.
Jack is survived by his wife, Fern, of 54 years, with whom he shared a love of Mariner baseball, Husky football, salmon fishing, duplicate bridge and travel.
Jack is also survived by four children, Casey John Gibson, Jamey Jim Hibbert, Mandy Bob McLauchlan, and Jason Raymond, and nine grandchildren: Jack, Ryan & Molly McLauchlan, Beau, Max, Sam, and Cole Hibbert, and Drew & Alex Gibson.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 2:00pm at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Avenue, Seattle, Washington.
