Born to Harry and Helen Eddy in Berwyn, Illinois. Moved to California then to Seattle at age 8. Jane taught knitting and sewing early on and had her own house painting and picture framing business well into her later years. She always loved sports and will be remembered by the many friends she made playing tennis, badminton and squash. Jane was never without a sewing, knitting or embroidery project in her hands and was a member of the Seattle Weavers Guild for many years. She was always quick to notice when help was needed and to lend a warm heart and helping hand.
John Shands Thompson M.D. 6/19/23-11/9/17
Born to William F and Julia B Thompson in Long Beach California, moved to Seattle at age 2. John was in the army during medical school and a flight surgeon in the Navy afterwards. He had a family practice in Laurelhurst for approximately 20 years then practiced psychiatry for another 30.
He was a man who lived with passion, building a community of friends wherever those passions led him. Early on he lived for skiing and mountaineering. He built and flew airplanes, played squash and golf, always looking for and happily sharing a newly discovered answer to the perfect stroke. He was a prolific painter, always happy that his technique was “coming along”. John was a storyteller and a gentleman with an eye and an ear for any way he could contribute, or as he put it, "be useful".
Both attended Laurelhurst Elementary and Roosevelt High Schools. John attended UW then Long Island School of Medicine. Jane attended University of Pennsylvania then Columbia University. With the exception of time away for education and military service Jane and John lived their entire lives within several blocks of the shores of Lake Washington. They are preceded in death by Jane’s sister Betty May, John’s sister Janet Rothenbuhler and brother Will F Thompson Jr and their son Michael. They are survived by John’s sister Betsy Senechal, their daughter Meg, six grandchildren and their spouses and 20 great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jane and John were married for 74 years and are missed by friends and family alike.
Arrangements under the direction of Butterworth Funeral Home, SEATTLE, WA.
