As stubborn as his father, with a heart just as big, Jose wanted everyone to be happy. He always did what he could to accomplish that. As a boy, he spent much of his youth playing Dungeons and Dragons, collecting comic books and graphic novels, and gaming. A stunning self-taught guitarist and with hair anyone would be jealous of, he went from local musician/taco maker to senior software engineer at Microsoft. He was very proud of his accomplishments, and so were his family. It was his passion of computers and problem solving that eventually lead him to Seattle, Washington -- that and the Winnipeg snow. "You don't have to shovel rain" he would say. Taken too soon, with many things still on his bucket list, his memory will live on through his family and friends. They will be watching the latest remakes and continuations of his favorite sci-fi franchises for him.
Jose was predeceased by his father Avelino Fernandez, and he leaves behind his mother, Remedios Fernandez, his sisters, Linda Blackey (husband Phil) and Maria Vincenten (husband Peter), his nephews, Richard Lynch and Nicholas Vincenten, and his niece, Meghan Vincenten. Jose also leaves behind extended family throughout Spain, and Winnipeg, and numerous friends from his youth back home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and throughout Canada and the USA both in person and online. Another family that was an important in his life included Jamie Najera and her daughters Amara Kallos, Adriana Najera, Liliana Najera, and Natalia Najera.
Given the state of the world, the family will not be holding a formal memorial in Renton, Washington, nor Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the following charities noted below.
