
On July 1, 2005, Joyce Yoshikawa passed away in her sleep after several months? battle with liver cancer. She was 52. A Development Professional and Events Planner, Joyce was well known in Seattle?s communities of color, especially the International District/Chinatown neighborhood where she worked for many years at ACRS, the Asian Counseling and Referral Service and as a Consultant. Joyce bravely chose to live her final weeks at her mother?s condominium on Alki Beach where she was surrounded by family and friends. Joyce decided to knit caps and mufflers for the homeless children at First Place; always the consummate project coordinator, she secured commitments from friends to continue knitting in her memory. Joyce was a graduate of the University of Washington and received her Masters Degree in Social Psychology from Dayton University in Ohio. She was an Officer of the Northwest Developmental Officers Association, a member and the first woman President of the First Hill Lions Club. Joyce is survived by her mother, Fumi; brother, Terry; niece, Debbie Doug and their children Lisa and Michael, and her friend, Terry Johnson. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Jack, a brother, Michael and a nephew, Troy. Memorial Services will be held Friday, July 8, 7:30PM at the Japanese Baptist Church 160 Broadway, Seattle WA. 98122. In lieu of flowers or koden, Joyce requested that contributions be made to a favority charity.
