Dear Joe and children,

I learned of Kathleen's passing by an announcement at the 5:00 p.m. Mass at St. Luke's today.  I am still in a state of shock because the last time I saw her before Christmas, Kathleen looked radiant, and said she felt better than she had in a long time.  She was at the computer that day; I loved her emails and was happy to catch her in the middle of that endeavor.

Knowing her and you, Joe was a great blessing for me.  It was a privilege to sit at the kitchen table and chat with Kathleen, and also to know that she trusted me sufficiently to allow me to participate in her care, which I had expected to happen more than it did.  I always felt a warm glow whenever I passed your house and saw so many cars around, knowing that caring friends and family were inside.  On a rare occasion, I glimpsed Kathleen through the window at the table.  

My sympathy to you in your great loss.  Please know that grieving takes energy, so I hope you will be very good to yourselves during this time.  Take good care.

I did not know this woman. I stumbled on her obituarie quite by accident, while looking for that of a friend's mother. I read about some of the things she was involved with during her life and just wanted to express my admiration for someone who clearly worked long and selflessly for peace. Those of us who have been involved in such movements are aware of how little recognition and appreciation such dedication will get you in this world. She deserves both from her co-activists. Since I can't thank her now, I just wanted to extend my condolences to her family and friends for their loss - one that obviously came much too soon.

Kathleen was a precious gift to so many.  She was deeply committed to social justice.  She lived out her compassion and respect for all humanity. I will never forget how she gave of herself to all of us, even when she was gravely ill. Peace be with you, dear friend.

My, cousin Kathleen has always been someone very special. She was a GOOD person who touched many lives with her love and concern. The angels must be smiling since she has gone back home.

Kathleen and I are connected through our wonderful Aunt Winnie, who is the sister of Kathleen's Dad and was the wife of my Dad's brother.  I have actually known Kathleen and her siblings since we were young children living in the Bronx.  Over the years we saw one another at Family functions, but eventually drifted apart, living on opposite coasts.  However, our Aunt always shared information about all the members of our extended family.
As I read Kathleen's obituary, I was both saddened that she was taken while still in her prime; and humbled by all she did in the name of peace and justice.  Her family must be so proud of her as a loving wife, mother, sister and especially a daughter.  How proud her Mother would have been of her as well.
My heart and prayers go out to the Murphy-Williamson family as they mourn the loss of such an outstanding human being.  However, I am certain that her memory will live on in their hearts forever and that she will continue to watch over and guide her family.  For now, they have a new Guradian Angel.

I am very proud to say that Kathleen is my second cousin.  I feel that the family and I have lost a beloved, courageous and very precious relative and my heart goes out in deepest sympathy to Joe and her children, her Dad, my cousin Jack, her brothers and sister and my cousin Winnie and her family.  My family in U.K. and I join in mourning the loss of a very special person, who, though seriously ill did not abandon her fight for human rights.  May she now rest in peace.
