

Landes “Lonnie” Ward Smith, 77, of Tacoma, WA passed away Sunday December 26, 2021, at home surrounded by family. He leaves a huge hole in this world, and in the lives of his loved ones.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Seattle, WA. He was the second of five children born to Bruce and Marguerite Smith. He was a graduate of Ingraham High School. After school Lonnie joined the US Navy where he served 2 years, including a deployment to Vietnam. He later would serve in the Washington National Guard for a total of 25 years of service to our country. He was awarded a numerous medals, ribbons, and accolades. Lonnie was employed by King County Metro from 1980 until his retirement in 2009.
Lonnie enjoyed bowling, hopping in his car to go on adventures, gambling at the local casinos, and spending time with his family and friends.
Lonnie married his sweetheart Patricia Anne Lewiston on June 21, 1969. Together they shared children- Joe, Gena, Craig, Cassie, and Melinda. In addition, over the years they fostered over 200 children. Together they shared many adventures- traveling wherever their heart took them. Disneyland and Leavenworth were among their favorite destinations.
As his kids and grandkids would tell you, Lonnie had a playful spirit. He showed his affection for you by teasing you and giving you a hard time. He will forever be remembered for his quick wit, hard work ethic, and his dedication to his family.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, parents Bruce and Marguerite, and sister Helen. He is survived by siblings Vivian (Jack) Meyers, Rick (Gayle) Smith and Randy (Doris) Smith. His children- Joe Lucas (Lisa), Gena Evenson (Jason), Craig Smith (Corina), Cassie Smith, and Melinda Smith. Lonnie was the proud Papa of 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Services for Lonnie will be Saturday January 22, 2022 at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home & Cemetery 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle. Viewing will be 11am-12:50pm. Funeral 1pm and Burial at 2pm. There will be a reception in the South end, at the home of Lonnie’s son Craig, from 6pm to 8pm.
