
Laurent M.F. Larry Chantry, 80. died October 9, 2002, in Seattle after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by wife of 59 years, Phyllis Chantry and children Laurent Dean Chantry and his wife, Donna, of Juneau, Alaska, and daughter Linda Handy, her husband Carl, of Alexandria, Virginia, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Larry was born on February 19, 1922, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He moved to Seattle with his parents at the age of two. He lived in Seattle for
most of his life.
He graduated from the University of Washington in 1949 with a degree in architecture.
He worked for the General Services Administration for 20 years in Auburn and in Washington D.C. He also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Japan for four years.
Larry and Phyllis enjoyed traveling both in the United States, Canada and Europe.
They especially enjoyed England where they became aquainted with family and made
new friends. They enjoyed showing those family and friends the beauty of the state
when they came to visit. Through the family members and his extensive research he was able to develop an extensive history of the Chantry family.
Larry was a multi-talented artist. He was a sculptor, a painter and a photographer.
He shared his artwork and his photography frequently during art showings and presented
many talks illustrated with his photographs to various groups. In addition to his art activities, Larry was also an avid button/pin collector. His collection numbered over 70,000 buttons and and pins.
Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur and Catherine Chantry
and his brother Arthur Will Chantry.
A celebration of Larry?s life will be held on Saturday, October 12,2002, at 12:00pm. Those attending are asked to share a story or a memory of Larry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a favorite charity in memory of Larry.
