Lois Dorothy Glass, née Satz, passed away peacefully from heart failure in the early hours of February 13, 2025, at the age of 95, with her beloved husband of 72 years, Werner Glass, by her side. Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, New York, Lois was a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
A natural-born educator, Lois dedicated her life to shaping young minds. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, touching the lives of summer campers, preschoolers, and grade school students. Her passion for teaching also profoundly impacted her family, including her husband, their three children (Alan/Kathy, Don, Ken/Sandy), seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Lois' commitment to education culminated in her authorship of "Up the Learning Ladder," a seminal work that has guided countless parents in nurturing their children's intellectual, moral and social growth.
Even in retirement, Lois and Werner maintained an active lifestyle, surrounded by a circle of loyal friends. They successfully achieved their goal of visiting all 50 states and explored numerous countries around the world. In 2009, they settled on Mercer Island, WA, where they continued to embrace life's adventures.
Lois's legacy as an educator, author, and loving matriarch will continue to inspire generations to come. Her dedication to lifelong learning and her ability to touch lives serve as a testament to a life well-lived.
