Marcy Ann Takahashi-Martin passed away peacefully on August 10, 2021 i n Edmonds,
Washington one day after her 68th birthday. She was born in East Cleveland, Ohio to Harlan
and Lillian Takahashi on August 9th, 1953. Her family eventually moved to North Olmsted, Ohio
in the late 50’s where she lived with her sisters, Gail and Leslie, and brother, Marc. She
graduated from North Olmsted High School in 1971 and attended Cuyahoga Community
College. While attending college she lived in East Cleveland until 1978, when she moved to
Seattle, Washington with her eventual husband, David L. Martin, after which they married in
1982 in Reno, Nevada.
Her artistic abilities emerged at an early age creating art in many forms from drawing to
painting. Her love of arts and crafts projects eventually led to a graphics arts career, which she
learned through apprenticeship. She worked for several design firms in Seattle including
Neographics, Type Gallery, Associated Grocers, and eventually Costco. At Costco she became
a Master Package Designer and was loved and admired by her fellow designers.
She looked at the world with her designer eyes. She liked to learn new techniques by watching
other artists and was excited to share her discoveries with others. Her enthusiasm for design
extended beyond her work to the interior design of their home and her wardrobe; she always
looked well put together and was a master at accessorizing.
She was a kind, caring, and energetic person with a winning smile and always modest to a fault
about her artistic abilities. Devoted to family, she always made time for them and included them
in her social activities. She liked reading mystery stories on their patio while drinking her extra hot Soy Chai Tea Lattes. She loved collecting Japanese tea pots, intricately designed pop-up books, and local artist’s work.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, David; stepsons, Scott and Jay; siblings, Gail,
Leslie, and Marc; nieces Kaylen, Hope and Clara; and nephew Toshiro. Her ashes were interred
at Evergreen-Washelli Columbarium on Wednesday August 18th, 2021.
