Our Sweet Pea Margaret passed away March 9, 2013 from Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor. Margaret was surrounded by friends and family who loved her dearly. Her zest for life was evident by all the parties and events Margaret was involved in most of her life. Margaret travelled abroad, across the US, and the beautiful beaches of Hawaii. She enjoyed sailing, golfing, tennis, skiing, photography, music, and spending time in the garden as well as playing the cello.
Margaret was born in Seattle, WA in April 1952. Her parents were Ruth Dam and Steven Marshall Dam. Margaret graduated from Shoreline High School in 1970 and received her Bachelor of Science from University of Washington in 1974. She moved to St. Louis to complete her internship in Dietetics at Barnes Hospital in 1975. Margaret moved back to Seattle as a Registered Dietitian to work at Northwest and Harborview Hospitals. She also worked at Ross Labs and then embarked on a career in School Food Services at Seattle and Mukilteo Schools. Margaret was then offered a job as a School Specialist in Food Services of America, where she worked for over 20 years helping schools procure foods. Margaret then returned to her love of School Food Service and finished her career at Auburn School District, where she managed meals and staffing for 8,000 meals per day. She implemented the Whole Food Cooking Program, "Discover, Cook, and Nourish". She was active in Washington State Nutrition Association and traveled to Washington DC for many years to lobby for School lunch and breakfast programs. Margaret's greatest passion in life was to serve healthy meals to children.
Margaret is survived by her long term partner and spouse of 16 years Linda Donohue, her brother Marshall Dam, Aunt Lois Stanley, Uncle Ralph Simon, and cousins in Oregon, Eastern Washington, Alaska, and Colorado. Margaret was also blessed to have an extended family of friends who loved her dearly.
