Lucy Lopez, beloved and influential restaurateur who helped shape Seattle's Mexican food scene, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on 11/21/2025.
Born in Cuautla, Jalisco, Mexico, to Juana T. Lara and Jose R. Lara, Lucy was a respected teacher in her hometown before moving to Seattle in her late 20's. Soon after, she married Pablo Lopez, and together they opened 7 restaurants by the name of Guadalajara. Lucy taught countless cooks and became affectionately known by many in the community as the "Godmother" of Mexican food in Seattle for her role in spreading authentic cuisine and supporting the growth of restaurant entrepreneurs.
Beyond the kitchen, Lucy was known for her generosity, teaching spirit, and deep ties to the local community.
Lucy Lopez leaves behind a legacy woven into the fabric of Seattle - one of food, culture, and abiding love for community. She will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ the King Church, in Lucy's memory.
The family of Lucy Lopez offers heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Evergreen Hospice, especially Emily, Jenifer, Lisa, Lydia, and Lori, whose kindness and dedication were a true blessing during her final days.
