Marion L Dillard was my good friend. I met her in 1958 and we remained friends until God called her home.  On several occasions she babysit my children and I her’s.  We had loads of fun together raising our children. Marion had such a beautiful spirit and a wonderful personality. She is a person I will never forget.  To God Be The Glory for creating such a lovely individual!!!🙏❤️

Marion Dillard was my friend, my teacher, my confidant and I loved dearly.  I met her when I was young and just moved into the 33rd street Mt. Baker neighborhood.  She was a few years older and wiser and taught me  not to be such a worry wort.  She introduced our family to camping and family fun.  Her house was spotless and her child's were all well behaved and talented in sewing and arts and crafts.  Every November, we made our holiday fruitcakes.  Living only two blocks apart. The Dillard Family, The Williams Family, The Bass Family, and the Ervin Family gathering made  for many years of wonderful memories that still makes us smile and warm our hearts  today.  Although our children grew up and everyone moved away from the Mt. Baker community homestead (except for me), the bond remains strong.  Marion was a key figure.  She always had a smile, sound advice, and a welcoming spirit.  Marion, Wanda and Joan had a special kinship.  We ate, sipped much wine and exchanged many stories,  My recollections only capsulated how important Marion was in my life in Mt. Baker.  Candidly speaking, I always hated the fact that she moved away and I was not able to just walk up the street and talk to her.  So we talked on the phone.  But such is life and  we all know it changes all the time and we just have to adjust.  And to all the Dillard family, stay strong, loving and kind......your mother would want it that way.  I always hope you will keep in touch with me too....Joan

I have such fond memories of Mrs. Dillard from when I was a young girl. She was a warm and welcoming mom, an elegant and graceful woman. My love is with the Dillard family as you navigate this loss.

Although I met your mother only one time, you mentioned your mom to me so often, so I know you adopt your mother’s  plan ahead, organize, and maintain cleanliness. I sand you and Dillard family love and the best wishes.

dear cynthia, judith, estelle, mitchell, lynda, morgan and taylor, 
twenty-six years ago i noticed marion at the y on a yoga mat next to mine.  i was in need of a black friend, having moved in retirement from wash. d.c. where i had many black friends and now found seattle very vanilla.  i needed her more than she needed me.  we started having cups of tea, talked about life and called ourselves yoga sisters.    then my daughter maria died suddenly in a car crash and i cried on marion's shoulder.  a year later marion called me urgently after octavia's sudden death.  now we had a deep bond, mothers who had lost a daughter through sudden death.  we attended parent grief groups and spent a weekend at a grieving workshop at seabeck on the peninsula.  we met regularly, enjoyed restaurant outings and walks at seward park,  watching kids and ducks, the water and the mountain.  when i moved into my house in the central district, marion arrived with a bucket and cleaning utensils and took over scrubbing the kitchen.  we gave each other little presents and i especially treasure a tiny book of quotes about friendship she gave me.  during her last days at kline galland i read to her from the little book: 'friendship doubles our joy and divides our grief,' said cicero.  and jim lehrer said 'real friends have no problem with silence.'  and so we sat in silence.   i watched her belabored breathing with a heart full of  gratitude and sadness.
you, her offspring, were the most important people in marion's life.  my heart goes out to you at this time of farewell and grief, valerie kreutzer
