Margie passed away in her sleep July 19, 2016. She was born in Seattle April 15, 1924 to Roy and Marion McConkey. She attended West Seattle high school with her uncle Jack McConkey. She was a lady of great wit and humor, fashion and style, kindness and civility and, most of all, of love for her family both immediate and extended. We miss her.
Early on, Margie loved roller skating and met future husband, Walt, in 1937 at one of the many roller rinks operating in the Northwest at the time. Walt & Margie married in 1942 while he was on leave from the Navy. During 78 years of courtship and marriage, their many activities included the very early days of Northwest skiing, travel to Detroit to pick up a new Pontiac, and cruise trips to Alaska in search of glaciers and whales. For many years, they made annual trips to Maui where they beachcombed, golfed (Walt), barbecued and generally relaxed. Some years they were joined by family. Grandson, Nick, first learned to swim in the pool there. In later years, one of Margie's favorite activities was a golf outing on Whidbey Island with Walt, son Michael and grandson Nick. She walked the hilly course providing encouragement to the three players.
Margie is survived by husband, Walter; son, Michael (Judy): grandson, Nick; three step-granddaughters Kirsten (Stephen), Caitlin, Carmen and adored step great-granddaughter, Abby.
