Mary Jane was blessed with a long, wonderful life filled with love, humor, and adventure. She grew up as the youngest of three siblings in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. There she excelled in school where she joined many activities, including the tennis team. With her competitive nature and team spirit, she was Idaho state doubles champion for two years.
Looking for career opportunities, she left home for North Pacific Dental College. There in Portland she obtained her certificate as one of the first dental hygienists when this field was still new. Upon graduation she married a young dentist, and became Mrs. Olin M. Loomis.
During their first years together, Mary Jane and Olin travelled for the Public Health Service to eastern Washington, bringing dental services to low-income communities and migrant workers. Afterwards, they established their dental practice at the Medical Dental Building in Seattle. Together they cherished many lasting connections, as patients and other dentists became life long friends. Theirs was a partnership of love and affection for 61 years.
Making their home in northwest Seattle, the Loomis family enjoyed summers on Whidbey Island, snow skiing in the winters, and vacationing on Maui. Olin and Mary Jane were members at the Seattle Golf Club where Mary Jane showed that she was still quite the competitor-- both on the golf course and at the bridge table. She loved playing the piano and any occasion for dancing, which made her very popular at weddings and other social events.
After Olin passed away in 2004, Mary Jane moved to the Ida Culver House in Broadview. Always social and inclusive, she kept a regular schedule of bridge games, and made lasting friendships. Mary Jane was an avid reader, and also held an enthusiastic interest in using her computer and the latest technology. Her warm smile and cheerful ways were appreciated by all of those who knew her.
MJ has always been so proud of her family: daughter Jane Johnson, and grandchildren Inger and Anna (Brad Bonnett), daughter Carol (Douglas Meckling), and grandchildren Jamison (Kalees), Lisa (Dylan Mason), Kurt, Laurie, and Leanne (Nathan Holzer). She delighted in her seven great-grandchildren, aged 4 months to 8 years old.
The family wishes to thank the loving and supportive staff at Ida Culver House Skilled Nursing and Providence Hospice. .
