

Ngook Hong Lee Huie was born on November 29, 1919. She was born in the village of Heng Tang in Taishan County, Guangdong Province, China. She was the oldest child of James Lee Ford and Shui Ying Ng. She was arranged to marry Pak Huie, who returned to China from the U.S.A. in 1935 at the age of 16. After a separation of 12 years, she finally joined her husband in 1947 after the end of World War II and settled in Ellensburg, Washington.
Ngook Hong Lee Huie passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 after an abundant life of over 101 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in December 1996 and her grandson Eian Huie who passed away in 1983. She is survived by her five children, Richard Huie (Chun), Archie Huie (Debra), Carrie Huie-Pascua (Andy), Judy Rogers (Floyd), Jim Huie (An-mei), 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Hong or Mrs. Huie as many of her contemporaries addressed her, was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a fantastic memory and a sharp mind. She also had a quick smile and made friends easily. She was an avid gardener participating in Ellensburg’s garden club for many years. She was always ready to share the fruit of her work, both flowers and vegetables.
After arriving in Ellensburg in 1947, Mrs. Huie had a very busy life raising five children, learning English and adapting to life in small town America. During her life in Ellensburg, she made many friends and became an entrepreneur by starting a restaurant with her husband and investing in real estate, stocks and helping others get ahead by investing in them. She was successful by being very frugal and hardworking.
After her husband passed away in 1996, she relocated to Seattle to be closer to her children and continued making friends and helping others invest in real estate and other ventures. She greatly enjoyed her circle of friends in the Chinatown International District, mentored Chinese immigrant family and friends. She actively took part in the Chew Lun Benevolent Association, by participating in the Women’s Group and often serving as a consultant to the Seattle Chapter’s Chew Lun Board of Directors. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Hong Huie’s name.
