Prabha Prasad

Prabha Devi Prasad was born in Suva Fiji Islands on December 31st 1937 and went home to the Lord on August 30th 2018. She was the first child of Lily Alexandria Bechan and Pandit Ram Dayal Sharma. There are 10 siblings consisting of 5 brothers and 5 sisters. The brothers were Rudra, Brambha, Anu, Raju, and Rupen.The sisters are Uma, Lalita, Aruna, Sushanta, and Sandhya.Prabha was sent to a boarding school at the tender age of 12 and as her education progressed was the first Fiji Indian to be given a scholarship to study in India. This gave her the intelligence and independent survival skills that molded her into the strong willed person she was.Prabha always had a huge love towards all members of her family. She's the pioneer of her family responsible for migrating most of her brothers, sisters, and many friends to the USA and Canada.

Prabha excellerated in her passion for music and teaching achieving many awards, recordings, radio broadcasts, and concerts with her sitar playing and singing. Music lead her to be one of the top known artists in India, Fiji, New Zealand, USA, and Canada to this day. A couple of her notable music accomplishments was the opportunity to play with the Beattles in Auckland New Zealand and for Queen Elizabeth at the Buckingham Palace. She also taught in primary, secondary, colleges, and universities. She then migrated to Seattle sometime in August of 1968 to be a professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Washington. Seattle is where she met her husband Alakh Prasad and they got married on November 10th, 1968. Alakh being in the restaurant industry brought out another passion of Prabha of cooking. Aside from being a professor, they both opened the first Indian restaurant in Seattle called Prasad's Cafe in 1968. Then she went onto to teach sitar and vocalin 17 states through the National Assemblies of Hollywood accompanied by her husband on tabla. Upon their return to Seattle, Prabha got a degree in business administration and eventually started her own business called Prasad's Imports which she held for 32 years.

Throughout her life Prabha was very close to the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Even until her las breath she always mentioned Jesus. Her love for her famiy and friends is irreplaceable, entertaining thousands of people with her own cooking. She is lived on by her daughter Nivedita Treon and her two children, Tarun and Radhika, great granddaughter Arianna, Her son Anil, wife Nilasni Prasad and their two children Aman and Anjali Prasad. She leaves a great legacy behind in showing unconditional godlike love to her friends and family. Prabha will be really missed but surely will be an angel of God and looking after her loved ones always until they meet again.
