Born on July 27, 1945 and raised in Ballard, Washington, Rick grew up with a powerful sense of community and responsibility, values that shaped his life profoundly. He served his country with honor as a member of the Navy, embodying the values of discipline, courage, and commitment. Following his service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Seattle City Light, where his expertise and passion made an indelible mark. As a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 35 years, his work ethic, camaraderie, and professionalism earned him the respect of his peers.
Rick was deeply devoted to his wife, Linda, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. They called Vashon Island home, moving to Dockton, a place where their hearts truly belonged. Together, they cultivated a small family farm, specializing in garlic and flowers, which became a source of joy and pride. The farm stands as a testament to their hard work, ingenuity, and connection to nature. Today, the farm flourishes, cultivated by his daughter, Robin Mallory, and her husband, David Mallory. It provides vibrant blooms and flavorful harvests to communities throughout the greater Puget Sound, enriching the lives of many.
Above all, Richard was a loving grandfather, cherishing the moments spent with his grandchildren, Lucy Mallory, Jackson Mallory and Maximillian Swanson, who brought him immense happiness and filled his life with purpose. He is also survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Stephanie Swanson, who will strive to carry his values and memories forward.
Richard Swanson's life was one of service, family, and heartfelt endeavors. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his memory will remain a guiding light for those he touched. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the homestead he cherished and the family he held so dear.
