
Roberta was born on June 26, 1929, at Seattle General Hospital @ 10:35 a.m. to parents Edward Joseph & Mabel Helena McGowan. When she was two years old, Roberta?s brother, Billy, was born. Sadly, he died of diphtheria two years later. At age 5, the family suffered another tragedy when Roberta?s father died of a heart attack, leaving Roberta and her mother to fend for themselves. They opted to stay in Seattle, living in several locations throughout Roberta?s childhood. She later met John Thomas Bruno and they married and lived with his family for many years. In 1961 they purchased a home in Seattle. She worked at Skyway Luggage for a while, as well as working as a waitress, a cook, a bartender, and in the farm fields in the Puyallup Valley. She spent the last 42 years of her life at home raising her children, caring for her husband, reading lots of books, and watching lots of movies. She was blessed with 8 children, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and reading. When her mother passed away in May of 2004, she decided to sell her home of 43 years and move into her mother?s home in north Seattle. After she suffered a heart attack and a stroke this May, she resided at the Health and Rehabilitation of North Seattle, where she passed away on September 21, 2005. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and one grandchild. She is survived by her 8 children, 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
