

Ruth Stone passed away Sunday February 1, 2015 at the age of 94 in Des Moines, WA. Born on September 9, 1920 she was raised on a farm south of Port Orchard, WA. She was the only daughter of Emil and Elin Johnson immigrants from northern Sweden. Learning English from friends and in a one room school house she progressed to graduate from South Kitsap High in 1938 and from the University of Washington with a degree in Pharmacy. In 1942 she married John Stone. For over 60 years they lived in the Shorewood area of now Burien where they raised their three children. After her children were grown she returned to work at Pay n' Save and later at Standring and Riverton Hospitals. Nearing retirement she was recognized by Gov. Booth Gardner as one of the early women in Pharmacy.
She is survived by children Jim, Elin (Al Showalter) and Craig (Amy), and grandchildren John, Mike, Donna, (Tom Schoonover), Greg White, Keith (Christina), Kyle, and great-grandchild Loki White. A Family and Friends Gathering in remembrance of Ruth will be held at the home of Craig and Amy Stone in Renton from 2:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday February 22nd.
