

Died peacefully the morning of Oct 5th, 2010 at Swedish/ Edmonds Hospital just a month before her 93rd birthday. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Granite City, Illinois. She was a graduate of Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, class of 1939. She met and married a young intern, Burton Foote and moved to Ellensburg, Washington after WWII where he began his medical practice and together, they started a family. She was an avid golfer during those years and a member of the Ellensburg Country Club. She was also a member of the Ellensburg Chapter of Eastern Star.
In 1955, she moved with her 3 children to Seattle, Washington where she worked as the Director of Nursing at a private Crown Hill hospital for many years. During that time, she met the love of her life, Russell Taylor. They were married in 1964. When the Crown Hill facility closed, she became Director of Nursing at Monroe State Reformatory until her retirement in 1986. She and Russ, often with the grandchildren, traveled in their R.V. throughout the western states . After retirement, she became an active volunteer with the Snohomish County Visitors Bureau and a member of the Retired Washington State Public Employees.
Ruth is preceded in death by her father, Harold Johnston; mother, Ruth Johnston; step mother; Verna; sisters, Naoma, Esther, Mary Louise; brother, Harold Jr.; 2 children, James and a baby daughter.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Russell, daughter, Ruth Foote (Dave Fallon); sons Burton and Richard Foote; special grandchildren David (Molly) Foote, Alicia (Shane) Smith, Ben Foote and great grandchildren Callie and Alec; honorary daughter, Kathy Erickson; many loving extended family and friends. We want to give special thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at Swedish/ Edmonds Hospital that were a part of our lives during these past 2 weeks and Dr. Richard McGee and his staff who have cared for her for many years.
