Samuel King Pun Wong was born to Fui-Yuen Wong and Po-Ying Tse, a prominent judiciary family of judges and lawyers in Taishan District, Guangdong, China on 05-12-1937. He was the sixth of eight children.
During the period of changing governments and political unrest, his father and older siblings escaped from China. He stayed behind in China to help his mother to take care of his two younger brothers. He did what he could to learn how to farm as a teenager.
He moved in 1956 to Guangzhou for high school and opportunities to leave China. He was able to leave China for Hong Kong to join some of his family members in December of 1957. He worked as office clerk for various companies.
He had the opportunity to immigrate to Seattle with two of his brothers, Steven and Joseph in July, 1966. He had worked in many area restaurants. He had worked his way up to be a well known Chinese chef. He had also dappled as an owner along the way.
He was an easy going, mild manner, humorous and kind man. He never had a harsh word for anyone. He was generous with his time. He was always there for his family and friends. Uncle Sam was the most popular uncle to all nephews and nieces.
His life long passion was fishing. You should see how wide he grinned when he posted for a picture with a five-pounder. May he catch the biggest one up there!
Sam was survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Angela; his son William and daughter-in-law Susan and Mouyly; his sisters King Ngor and King Mui; brother-in-law Kwok Kuan Lee; his brothers Steven, John and Joseph; sister-in-law Teresa, Pui Chung, Ching Yau and Siu Ching, and numerous nephews and nieces.
