Shirley J. Nelson passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Seattle, WA, the place of her birth. She was a gracious 84, surrounded by endless love. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her eldest son Gary, her sister-in-law Linda, and her nephews David Jr. and Greg. Shirley is survived by two children - Karen and Stephen, four grandchildren - Justin, Michelle, Petrina, and Derek, sixteen great grandchildren and three siblings - George, Babe and Glenn.
Shirley lived in North Seattle not far from Greenlake and was a 1948 graduate from Lincoln High School. She worked in the Intelligence Office at Ft. Lawton for several years. My how time flies. She retired as an executive assistant in the healthcare industry and also worked in the restaurant and sales business during her lifetime.
Shirley faced her adversary with defiance, hiding the pain behind those beautiful eyes from those who love her. She valued her family most. She also loved motorcycling cross country with her husband Frank. She had a knack for nick-nacks. She would express her creativity through her craft-making and sewing. Shirley enjoyed dancing, walking, making her own dolls, and collecting music boxes, bells, miniatures, and stuffed animals. She loved having fun with her family, especially her children. She lived her life with grace, dignity, class, and strength in character. Shirley's greatest qualities were the love she had for those who loved her, being a great listener, and her never ending expressions of compassion, empathy, generosity, and humor. Shirley was indeed a great Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She lived being sassy and classy to the very end. Shirley will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts and thoughts bringing smiles to our faces as we cherish those precious memories. She will live on in Heaven keeping an ever watchful eye on us.
