A blind woman who died after the car in which she was riding in was struck by an airplane. The plane was an Alaska Airlines C-54 charter airliner with 26 passengers and three crew members aboard. The plane had left Anchorage on November 27, 1947, but was delayed three days due to bad weather and mechanical problems. On November 30, visibility in Seattle was reduced by thick fog, forcing the plane to abort two previous landing attempts. On its third try, at approximately 2:25 p.m., the four-engine Douglas plane landed from the northeast and ran off the end of the runway, where it then collided
with the car traveling on Des Moines Road. Eight others also died and 17 were injured in this very tragic accident. An investigation concluded that the pilot had approached the runway too high and was not lined up properly. He was fined $1,000.
