family on January 30, 2022, after a brief battle with lymphoma.
Stu was born January 20, 1944, in Morristown, New Jersey to Horatio and Ruth (Sanderson)
Young. He grew up with siblings Richard and Patricia. He attended the University of Iowa,
graduating in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology. He graduated from
the University of Iowa College of Law in 1969. Stu initially worked in Washington D.C. for the
Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and then transferred to the White House,
working with the President. In Seattle, he utilized his legal background in a number of
businesses, real estate development, and investment loans. He was also an ardent and
successful stock market investor who thoroughly enjoyed analyzing and investing in public
companies and other ventures. In his spare time, Stu loved being outdoors, spending time with
his family, walking his dog, working in his yard, visiting with neighbors, traveling, and dining at
his favorite restaurants.
He was a warm, generous, vibrant person who never met a person he didn’t like. He loved
connecting with people and finding a way to make them laugh and feel special. He was a
dedicated and loving partner to his wife, Susan, of 47 years, and an extraordinary father to his
three children, Brett Young (Nicole), Heidi Miller (John Patrick), and Alexis Young (Ivy,
English Cream Retriever).
Aside from being survived by his wife and children, Stu also leaves behind his sister, Patricia,
grandchildren Skyler Miller, Siena Young, and Whitney Young, and his beloved Golden Doodle,
Cokie.
There will be a celebration of Stu’s life at a future date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Evergreen-Washelli.com for the Young family.
