Susan Lindsey passed away on January 25th in Seattle at the age of 66 after a very short battle with an aggressive form of endomentrial cancer. She was born in Bellingham to Thad and Angelene Lindsey. Susan is survived by her sister, Mary Lindsey of Bellingham and her brother, John Lindsey (Mary K), of Lake Forest Park. She is also survived by her brother’s adult children, Brandon, (Jenny), Christopher (fiancé, Jess), Shawn (Vanessa), and Kathryn McCoy (Brandon). Susan thoroughly enjoyed being their aunt as well as a great-aunt to Lewis and Leah (Brandon and Jenny’s children). She was looking forward to the arrival of another great-niece, Sofia (Shawn and Vanessa), in the spring.
Susan was a kindergarten teacher for 34 years at Jackson Elementary School in the Everett School District. She absolutely loved being a kindergarten teacher and found joy in providing five and six year olds with many varied and enriching learning activities and experiences. Having taught in the same school for her entire career, Susan was able to follow her past students as they advanced through their schooling.
Susan was an avid flower gardener. She loved flowers and yard art, spending many hours each spring and early summer getting her yard to look beautiful.
Susan loved traveling to places near and far from home. She and Mary traveled to Europe many times together and sometimes with cousins and friends. Her favorite vacation spot, as well as the one most visited, was Lahaina, Maui. This was a spot that her mother also enjoyed. Last February, Susan and Mary went to Maui to honor their mother on the one- year anniversary of her death by sending flowers out to sea.
Susan and Mary enjoyed being teachers and then retired teachers. They were (are) both very involved in union activities and traveled together for conferences, meetings and the representative assemblies locally and throughout the country.
Susan was a giver. Since her retirement in 2019 she supported the Sew Powerful program by sewing purses and writing supportive notes to keep girls in Zambia in school. She also raised money to pay for the supplies the girls needed to stay in school all month. Susan also was a registered organ donor. Her two corneas were donated to restore the sight of two individuals.
Donating to charities was important to Susan. Please consider contributing to a charity of your choice in her memory.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Susan on Saturday, February 10 at 1 PM at Elks Lodge, 2802 Hoyt Avenue, Everett, WA. A parking garage is available across the street.
