
Graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1935. Attended the University of Washington until 1939, when he purchased the Madison Street Market in the Central Area.
During World War II he and his family were sent to the Minidoka internment camp near Hunt, ID. From the camp he entered the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1944 to 1946. He was a staff sergeant in an intelligence unit of the post-war occupation forces in Japan.
He married Meriko Wada in 1947 and they lived in Seattle for their entire 58 years of marriage.
After he returned to Seattle in 1946, he continued to operate the Madison Street Market until 1965 when the store closed and he and a partner opened Madison Plaza Pharmacy on the same block. He owned businesses on East Madison Street near 22nd Avenue for over 50 years. He had many good friends in the neighborhood and generations of loyal customers.
He is survived by his wife Meriko, daughters Tedi Glenn Yasuda, Rae Bruce Pulmano, Mari Ron Howard, Sumi Carlos Smith, grandchildren Khalid Howard, Miyoko Howard, Tomas Pulmano, Mahealani Smith, Seiji Pulmano, great-grandson Asa, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
