Thornton Edward 'Ted' LUTTRELL III March 17, 1989 ~July 12, 2009 Bring the message of God to the ignorant masses We are the children of God risen up from the ashes The Sparrow will fly with the grace of an angel World and world will collide for the willing and able. 'Take Flight', last lyrics written by Ted Luttrell Our Teddy suddenly and unexpectedly took his final flight Sunday, July 12 when an aneurism ended his all-too-short life at 20.
Kind to the end, compassionate even to the paramedics vainly trying to save his life, flashing us all a 'thumbs up' in his final conscious moments, Ted touched all who knew him with his open heart and irresistible laugh. A gifted bassist and lyricist, Ted had a passion for music and hoped to complete the audio recording program at Shoreline Community College despite scholastic and medical challenges that made fulfilling his dream more difficult for him than most. Throughout it all, he graced us with his humor and quirky and original views on life. He gave us music-songs written with bandmates Derek Shatto, Brett Petrie and Chris Clogston-along with much Metallica, Rush and other favorites which burst forth from our music room and rattled dishes in my kitchen. He entertained us with endless quotes from 'Nick Danger, Third Eye', 'Monty Python', 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia', 'Southpark', 'Family Guy' and other shows that made him laugh; his sisters often joined in, especially Lizzie, roaring off on tangents only they could follow amidst side-splitting gales of laughter. Ted, a 'green baby', was born on St Patrick's Day and was already planning his 21st birthday with his sister Erin. He grew up in both the city and on Shaw Island, where his quirkiness was not only recognized but celebrated. Shaw continued to be his favorite place, often traveling with carloads of friends to build forts at South Beach, camp on Blind Island and brainstorm lyrics. We are grateful to the Shaw Island community for the 'village' that helped Teddy shine as his true self and for their loving ongoing support. We also wish to thank the paramedics and staff of Evergreen Hospital for their valiant efforts, compassionate kindness and loving support during this horrific time.
Ted is missed beyond imagining by his parents, Ed and Teresa; his sisters Erin and Lizzie; his grandparents Althea Luttrell, Joy Atwood, and Lorei and Jerry Molitor; his uncles Scott and Ken, aunts Stacy and Paula, and cousins Lauren, Clay, AJ, Russ and Stan (all Molitor); plus numerous other heartbroken relatives, countless friends, and his roommate, Eric, who found him and galvanized all the forces possible to save him. Thank you, Eric. We love you, T, and are so grateful to have had you in our lives. You live on in our hearts and in all you've taught us to be.
