Vernon Odean Brenden

Vernon Odean Brenden, age 88, peacefully passed from this earth on January 29, 2014 and was reunited with his sweetheart, Shirley Brenden. On March 19, 1925 in Rochert, Minn, Vern was born to August and Mary Brenden. He grew up with brothers, Avery and Archie, and sisters, Edith, Hazel, and Elaine in the Detroit Lakes, MN area. He served in the Army during WWII.

It was at a dance that he met the love of his life, Shirley Ellenson. They married on June 19, 1947 and soon were joined by sons David, Keith, and Loren. Vern was very proud of his public transit driving career in Fargo, ND, Moorhead, MN and King County, WA.

He retired from King County Transit in 1987. After retirement, Vern and Shirley enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, camping, and spending time with family. He loved to laugh and get his grandkids and great-grandkids all riled up.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, August and Mary; brothers, Avery and Archie; and sisters, Edith and Hazel. He is survived by his sister, Elaine; sons David (Linda), Keith (Susie), and Loren (Julie); grandchildren Stephanie Bala (Chad), Sam (Melody), Clayton, and Garrett; great-grandchildren Reid, Derynn, Saige, Cade, and Olin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vern, we love and miss you but are happy you and Shirley are together again.
